Forest Foundation donation

About one in three timber sales includes a donation to the Finnish Forest Foundation. Join in and donate too!

What is the Forest Foundation donation?

The Forest Foundation donation is a voluntary donation made in connection with timber trade and forms a significant part of the funding of the Finnish Forest Foundation. The contribution has previously been referred to as the sales promotion fee.

The amount of the contribution is:

  • 0.2% of the value of the timber trade in stumpage sales
  • 0.1% in delivery sales, with a minimum contribution of EUR 8

Both the seller and the buyer of timber participate in the donation, each contributing an equal amount. When a forest owner chooses to support the Finnish Forest Foundation, the timber buyer contributes a corresponding sum to the Foundation.

The donation is recorded in the timber trade contract. The buyer collects the Forest Foundation donation from the final instalment of the timber payment and transfers it to the Finnish Forest Foundation.

Take Advantage of the Tax Deduction

All Forest Foundation donations made in connection with timber transactions are tax deductible.
In the forest owner’s accounting, the donation is recorded as other expenses, and the receipt entitling the donor to a tax deduction is the final income receipt received from the timber sale.

For example, in a standing timber sale of €10,000, the actual cost of a voluntary donation is €14 after the tax deduction.
