Transport grants for schoolchildren

The Finnish Forest Foundation’s transport grants support forest excursions and events for schoolchildren across Finland. Through this support, more children and young people have the opportunity to explore forests and the forest sector through hands‑on experiences.

Transport Support for Forest Days

The Finnish Forest Foundation awards transport grants for school forest excursions and forest‑related events that strengthen the skills and understanding of forest issues among primary and lower secondary school pupils, upper secondary students, and integration groups. Thanks to the Foundation’s transport support, thousands of schoolchildren each year have the opportunity to explore the forest sector and its opportunities through hands‑on experiences.

Transport Grant Guidelines

Who is eligible for a transport grant?

  • primary and lower secondary school pupils
  • upper secondary school students
  • immigrant groups participating in various integration programmes

How are applications evaluated?

The Finnish Forest Foundation awards transport grants fairly across Finland within reasonable cost limits. Priority is given to excursions that take place in the applicant’s local area.

The content of the excursion is a key evaluation criterion: it should support understanding of the forest sector, forestry, the forest industry, or wood processing, or highlight education and career opportunities in the field.

A positive decision may cover transportation costs either fully or in part. The Finnish Forest Foundation exercises discretion when assessing the overall reasonableness of the excursions.

Examples of Locations

Transport grants may be used to support, for example:

  • forest excursions
  • visits to factories, sawmills, or other production facilities
  • visits to educational institutions in the forest sector
  • science centres and museums related to forests
  • fairs, forest days, and other forest‑related events

The excursion must be planned in cooperation with a forestry professional.

How to Apply for a Transport Grant

Estimate the number of participants as accurately as possible.
